What the German Design Council offers you!
The German Design Council Foundation has been operating since 1953 as one of the world’s leading centers of expertise in communication and knowledge transfer within design, branding and innovation. With the one&twenty competition, it offers design students and graduates a platform to present themselves effectively to the public. The top-class jury from the fields of business and design selects 21 designers whose work is presented to an international audience. As a winner, you will travel to the Milan Design Week 2024 and the German Design Council has a lot to offer you: Participation in the one&twenty exhibition (Amy-d Arte Spazio, Via Lovanio 6, Brera, Milan), coverage of travel costs and accommodation, the opportunity to make contacts on site, as well as presentation in the press and social media channels of the German Design Council.

The duo, who studied product and communication design, founded their own interdisciplinary studio in Hamburg in May 2011. In addition to interior design, their repertoire includes visual communication, editorial design and styling.
Their ideas and products are based on a combination of unusual materials with striking colour concepts. Eva Marguerre (born in 1983) and Marcel Besau (born in 1980) have already enjoyed notable success in their still young career, with numerous nominations for international design prizes. Among other things, they were among the 5 Newcomer Finalists for the German Design Award of the German Design Council in 2014.
Philipp Mainzer, a native of Germany, studied product design and architecture in London. In 1995 he became a co-founder of e15, thus establishing a furniture brand based on a progressive yet consistent philosophy. Today, Philipp Mainzer is the creative director and managing director of his architectural firm PHILIPP MAINZER OFFICE FOR ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN and of e15.
Arianna Lelli Mami and Chiara Di Pinto met each other at the Politecnico di Milano, and founded Studiopepe in 2006. Their conceptual approach draws on historical design references which they combine with a visionary purpose. They design interiors, and with their love of detail they create emotional objects for international design firms such as Agape, Cassina, Fritz Hansen and Spotti Enizioni Milano.
The work of Raw Color reflects a sophisticated treatment of material by mixing the fields of photography and graphic design. In the Eindhoven based studio they are working on self initiated and commissioned projects. By trusting on their intuition Raw Color has created a design language that is verbally direct, energetic and recognisable.
Hanne Willmann is a multidisciplinary Designer based in Berlin, focusing on Product Design and Creative Direction. Hannes core competencies lie in the areas of furniture, lights and tableware. The inventive designs are characterized by her deep passion for details and the high value placed on aesthetic appeal. After studying at the University of the Arts in Berlin and Elisava in Barcelona, Hanne worked for the design studio Autoban in Istanbul and for Werner Aisslinger in Berlin, before she found her own studio in 2015. In the the same year she was selected as "Design Talent of the Year 2015" by A&W Magazine, followed by the German Design Award "Newcomer Finalist 2016". Since 2017 she is lecturing at the University of the Arts, Berlin.
Min Chen is the founder of his eponymous studio, a multi-faceted design practice based in Hangzhou. Min Chen graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven and Domus Academy, he set up his own office in 2012. Finding the best bonding point of tradition and modernization, east and west have always been what Min Chen is good at. He provides design service for Loewe, SWAROVSKI, NIKE, Starbucks, Veneta Cucine, de Sede ,NATUZZI and other international famous brands. As the only finalist of Loewe international craft awards in China 2018, and then were invited by Loewe foundation to be expert judges of Craft Prize 2019.

Yoko Choy

Born in Hong Kong, Yoko Choy is an experienced design journalist; her work to date has been published in numerous international titles and she is currently the China editor of Wallpaper* magazine (global edition). Yoko is also a highly regarded communications consultant, whose clients include fair organisers, brands and creative studios. Currently based in Hong Kong and Amsterdam, she views East-meets-West as more than just an alignment of two aesthetic visions; her mission, as a multilingual and multicultural creative commentator and communicator, is to translate the knowledge and insights from both worlds into a common creative language and to raise awareness of the importance of cross-cultural exchange in the creative industry and businesses. To this end, Yoko co-founded Collective Contemporist in 2018, a creative consultancy with offices in Beijing, Hong Kong and Amsterdam, to stimulate and inspire conversations and collaborations between the two spheres.
Joa is a multidisciplinary product designer, who founded her Berlin-based studio in 2012. Her focus as a designer is to create simple yet thoughtful and practical products, objects that become companions and part of our lives. Her work includes furniture, lighting and accessories commissioned by international companies. Joa was named 'Design Talent of the Year 2017' by A&W Magazine, received the German Design Award for her lamp 'Onda' (2018) and Co-founded the female design collective 'Matter of Course' (2021). She received her product design masters at HFG Karlsruhe, worked for Patricia Urquiola/ Milan and Studio Dror in NYC, before starting her own practice. She lives and works in Berlin & Toronto.
Sabine Marcelis is an artist and designer who runs her practice from the harbor of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. After graduating from the Design Academy of Eindhoven in 2011, Marcelis began working within the fields of product, installation and spatial design with a strong focus on materiality. Her work is characterized by pure forms which highlight material properties.
She has recently won the prestigious Elle Deco International Design award 2023 'Designer of the year' and Wallpaper awards ‘Designer of the year 2020’
Main media partner of this year's one&twenty is Designboom. Designboom is an international web magazine covering industrial design, architecture and art. It was founded in 1999 and is based in Milan.
ndion is the media partner of one&twenty 2024. ndion is the content platform of the German Design Council, which has been committed to the economic, cultural and social relevance of design, brand and innovation since its foundation in 1953.
